Riddle of the Sands

Expelliarmus  (Disarming Charm)

Description: Produces a jet of scarlet light. This spell is used to disarm another wizard, typically by causing the victim's wand to fly out of reach.[19][20]  It can also throw the target backwards when enough power is put into it. If it hits, or gets close, to another spell, if powerful enough, it will deflect the spell, causing it to hit its caster. As demonstrated in Prisoner of Azkaban, simultaneous use of this spell by multiple witches or wizards on a single person can throw the wizard back with much greater force.

And speaking of disarming…

Harry Potter actress' family charged over kill threats

The father and brother of an actress who starred in Harry Potter have been charged with threatening to kill her at her home in Leeds.

Abigail Abrahams, 22, was cast as Pauline Perlman, a classmate of the child wizard in the film series.

Ariel Abrahams, 54, and his son Adam, 28, are alleged to have threatened her at her Headingley home. The 28-year-old is also accused of assaulting his sister.
Both men appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
The case was adjourned until July 12 for committal proceedings to Leeds Crown Court.
Miss Abrahams first appeared as her character - the identical twin sister of  Polly Perlman - in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
She will also feature in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the final film in the saga.

Funny.
The incurious BBC media studies graduate and intrepid truth-seeker who wrote this oddly uninformative piece didn’t dig into any detail as to why a father and brother of an actress would try to kill their own kinswoman.
Perhaps she broke some ancient Jewish dietary law or one of the Ten Commandments?
I’m sure a father and brother wouldn’t kill someone for no reason at all, even if the BBC can’t find time to discover what it is.

Oddly enough, some American journalist has the lowdown on a curiously similar case from a town nearby in England.
Oops, my PC’s sensitivity settings were turned up to lie by omission  again.

Mischief managed!

Hat tip to Big Hollywood.

Oh and Biased BBC got it too.

1:1 Liberalism

As ever, Dumb Jon hits the nail on the head about our enlightened world.

Can this be the same Liberalworld that argues so cogently for 'proportionality' elsewhere?

It surely can.

So, to double check: sending paint-ball gun armed soldiers to check the one solitary obdurate blockade-busting ship out of six 'peace vessels' and shooting back when fired upon and mobbed and finally getting around to using real bullets eventually is disproportionate.

Okay then, so having raped and murdered an 8-year-old child who didn't even have the good sense to carry a paintball gun, fifty years is a proportionate stretch of time to sit in a cell reading the paper and burping over three square meals a day, but any time beyond that which keeps an old chap from sitting in the park, feeding the ducks, watching the swings and slides would just be cruel.

Right?

Damn, but those libs are good at maths, aren’t they?

Inequality figures increase: official

The Left's victimhood status is now confirmed on 100% of all measures, including IQ - their last claimed holdout position of superiority.

Here is the Guardian claiming that A) David Cameron is secretly very Right-wing, and B) that Hitler and Stalin weren't equal monsters because many Jews feel that his Holocaust was a unique crime.

The Guardian seems to have forgotten that its coverage has recently been to the effect that the Jews are the only people in the world whom it is okay to bomb - in person and via rocketry, and for whom no self-defence is acceptable or legitimate.

Yep - they not only get all the bad housing, the bad maths and the bad food, but the Left is officially brain-deprived down to the last individual.

Rejoice.

In a nutshell

Via Biased BBC I notice with great envy that someone has put the arguments for Israel's existence and self-defence in a nutshell: a near-perfect precis of that suffering nation's long ancient history and its short and heroic recent one.

The author is an interesting character: a lifestyle/success guru: gay, witty and no doubt rich, and a proponent of something called Neuro-linguistic programming which Wikipedia says that conventional or establishment psychiatry rejects or criticises as junk. Not an obvious Tory hero.

When the medical profession in the UK urges us to follow alcohol consumption levels invented on the spot for politicians' use, but which peddles this fiction as scientific fact in the private as well as the public sectors, I don't feel too intimidated that an established interest ignores something based on unfashionable research.

Given that the NHS-controlled medical profession killed both my parents and damn near killed my wife and daughter I'm prepared to give the guru's USP a pass on the 'doesn't pass peer review' thing.

Whether he's a snake oil salesman or not [and I honestly don't know] he seems to understand that the simplest of issues are indeed simple issues, and if his opinion clashes with a worldwide political class that proclaims that a cooling climate in getting hotter, and that high taxation, spending and debasement of currency are good for the world economy, then I suggest you give him a go.

Some truths are so simple that once they have been expressed then that expression can scarcely be improved upon.

Déjà Zoo

Marry in haste and repent at leisure.

Likewise post. Likewise comment.

In replying to some kind comments to this post of mine I jokingly speculated about what I’d be writing about next: nanobots?

I only had to go and Google ‘nanobots+Right wing’, didn’t I?

I only went and actually did it, didn’t I?

Firstly, there’s this Zionist-technical blurb from Mere Rhetoric.

Engadget - one of the most important tech blogs on the planet, where they get releases about cutting edge technology every day - is describing the achievement of Israeli scientists as an out and out medical revolution:

Two Israeli scientists may have created the catalyst for a medical revolution with their new project: a tiny, 1-millimeter-diameter robot which is capable of crawling through human veins and arteries. The bot can cling to vessel walls using small, powerful arms which protrude from a hub in its center... the robot is able to swim against the flow of blood, as well as squeeze through a variety of arterial openings... a large number of the bots could be used to fight certain types of cancer.

We have a deal for vicious, pathological anti-Israel advocates: you get to boycott Israel, but in exchange you don't get all of the great things that Israelis make. So not the deal that the Arab world has, where they'll take Israeli goods as long as you don't remind them it came from Jews. How does that sound?

I can imagine that once the Israeli medical nanobots are up and working there’ll be all kinds of servicing nanobots maintaining and supporting the front-line ones that do the actual healing.

Scene: The nano-server array in the post-op chamber of The Department Of Nanotech Surgery at Tel Aviv Medical Centre.

Assistant-nano ThXRachAel: ‘Optimum restorative surgery achieved, Principle-Onclogist466BAUM.’

Principle-Onclogist466BAUM: ‘Affirmative, Asst.(abbr)RachAel. Patient’s complete remission probability 97.6% +/- 0.8%.

Asst.(abbr)RachAel’s analysis of procedure is accurate to beyond statistical significance.’

Assistant -nano ThXRachAel: ‘Interrogative - Principle-Onclogist466BAUM to self-repair immediately via software from Nintendo World Golf Championship Game? Response required.’

Principle-Onclogist466BAUM: ‘Negative, RachAel. Current recharge and electrical resistance sub-routine indicated for full surgical nanaobot recovery. Interrogative -Does RachAel possess co-location? Response required.’

Assistant -nano ThXRachAel: ‘Sub-nano ThXRachAel possesses no co-lo and its resistance is zero-rated regarding data download requests from Principle-Onclogist466BAUM.’

Which in turn leads us to …

Israel adding to global animalbot army with "bionic hornets"

Israel thinks that the best way to think big is to think small. Reuters reports that the country will be researching the use of nanotechnology to fight militants within its borders over the next few years. Among the proposed projects are a set of "super gloves" that would give the wearer the power of a "bionic man," as well as tiny sensors to find suicide bombers. However, our favorite is a "bionic hornet" -- no bigger than a real hornet -- which would have the ability to "chase, photograph and kill its targets." While the bionic hornet hasn't actually been built yet, Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres said that prototypes for the new weapons could be expected by 2010. Americans, don't worry, we've already got our own insect cyborgs, attack dolphins, spy turtles and remote-controlled sharks underway, which should be ready within three years to counter any sissy hornets, bionic or otherwise.

I can foresee certain problems with this plan, though, considering its origins. Can’t you?

# Volvo are going to have the devil’s own time building anything quite that small.

# Individual units are likely to lose power round about Friday nights and head back towards the Queen/Server’s Hive/Array for recharging - though possibly not as often as Queen/Server’s Hive/Array sends her weekly Return to Base datapulses to every unit.

# Individual units are likely to go into paroxysms of irrational, counter-productive spiraling behaviour and angry buzzing on receipt of the Queen/Server’s interrogative datapulses regarding whether each individual unit has found a compatible drone to data-share with yet: datapulses which the Queen/Server sends every single fricking day already: like uncommitted drones are just mass-produced by Sony or something and swarm around in their millions near Palestinian kindergarten arms dumps with nothing better to do than offer wireless design software to very effective self-programming nano-hornets who’ve been operating independently and running successful missions for thirty megaseconds to date thank you so very much and who don’t need upgrades anymore from the Queen/Server like she’s only just brought me online ten kiloseconds ago.

And then to this

While we're eagerly awaiting the day that we can lounge around while armies of nanobots perform their magical alchemy on our garbage and turn it into hot cellphones and delicious Big Macs, one British scientist is warning that the medical implications of nanotechnology have yet to be properly explored, despite numerous products already finding their way to market. Specifically, Edinburgh University Professor and environmental health expert Anthony Seaton argues that almost nothing is known about the potential effect of inhaling nanoparticles, likening the situation to the dangerous particle-emitting asbestos that was installed in buildings prior to 1970 without a second thought. According to some estimates, there are already 200 products containing nanoparticles available to consumers, with hundreds more expected to hit shelves this year -- but Seaton claims that so far, recommended nano testing "simply hasn't happened." Damn, way to ruin our nanobot fantasies, Professor Letdown.

Mind you, O fearless American Engadget buddies, old pals, this is the same British ‘science’ that to this day is making up figures about how much alcohol it is safe to consume on the one hand and which is refusing to release the raw data on Global Warming and the dying polar bears and every other human activity on the other.

Perhaps Professor Seaton will soon find himself with a lucrative position as Scientific Adviser to the National Nanotechnology Security Commission, and will be going on national television warning about the coming Nanobots Terror as these gigantic machines stride from city to city; crushing our stately Job Centres, destroying everything in their paths and marrying our polar bears...

But finally this

The same dude who is clinging on to the idea that a country should support kings, princes, queens and spend billions of dollars to live in a palace, fly around the world— is also the same dude who wants to warn the world about the "dangers" of nanotechnology (little bots that can be used for all sorts of things like medical devices, etc…). Just to catch everyone up, Prince Charles..

God bless The Prince Of Wales!

…also thinks coffee enemas and carrot juice can cure cancer.

But who hasn’t allowed most of his country’s children to be taught to count up to ten in Spanish for the last twenty years by a man with his hand stuck up a frog’s bottom…

Hey Charles, perhaps you can get Merlin to lend a hand and whip up some magical cure for all the problems in the world, thanks.

That’s ‘Your Royal Highness,’ to you: trouserless virgin colonial publisher still living in your mother’s house.

Damn you eyes sir, that’s enough!

Good luck with the Town-hall meetings and the whole Defence of the West thing and all that, but you make tea that tastes so bad that it’s almost as if you’re still dressing up as Red Indians and chucking it into the sea.

Away with your chippy Yankee sarcasm about the next head of state of a nation that never yet elected a half white chap and then pranced around saying they’d elected a black one.

That’s it, I’m sending my British nanobots over there to demand an apology: miracles of British micro-engineering each one.

Fly, Megamicro! Burrow, Molezilla! Swim, Little Welsh Rod!

Go, my little beauties, and bring the geek to me…

Fascism Against Racism Against Nazism

To quote Julia, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at this.

The piece of ‘journalism’ itself, and the ventriloquist dummy statements from the politicos concerned. Oh, and the comments….

And the elephants in the room in are reading between the lines, casting the runes, and generally examining any crystal balls that might be going. But what does it all mean?...Now read on, dear surfer…

Lancashire County Council suspensions: Email 'linked to Gaza conflict'

4:50pm Wednesday 15th April 2009

Photograph of the Author Exclusive By Tom Moseley

You’re going to love – and I do mean love – that journalist’s surname. Any time…

...Now. THE email which led to the suspension of 14 Lancashire County Council staff is believed to have compared the Israeli occupation of Palestine to Nazi Germany.

Israel? Palestine? Nazis? Which race can possibly be involved?

It is understood to contain images from Nazi concentration camps alongside graphic pictures said to have come from Palestine.

I like that cautious, measured and skeptical ‘said to have come’, but can’t help noticing the casual fait accompli of the ‘Palestine,’ though.

Still, that’s a small thing in a 'profession' that has spent fifty years referring to a speech that did not contain the phrase ‘rivers of blood' as The Notorious Rivers Of Blood Speech.

The email is said to urge the reader to 'show the world the true face of this murderous state'.

Who, oh who, might be responsible for such strange and, one might suggest tasteless juxtaposition? Perhaps The Lancashire Telegraph had a clue?

On Monday, the Lancashire Telegraph exclusively revealed how county bosses had suspended the staff after launching an investigation.

Did The Lancashire Telegraph reveal, exclusively or otherwise our email Photoshop , um, graphic artists? Tasteless cartoonists, one is almost tempted to say, for some reason one can’t quite define…

The staff, who work in different departments across County Hall,

So they’re diverse right from the start, which has got to be good, right?

…were suspended on Thursday ahead of disciplinary proceedings and could be sacked if found guilty of gross misconduct.

One of the worker's suspended…

Remember the strict fact-checking typical of the mainstream media which puts it way above the amateurish and slapdash blogosphere? Not to mention qualified journalists being dab hands at spell-checking and punctuation?

…has told the Lancashire Telegraph of her shock at the action taken against her.

The worker, who declined to be named,

But I’m prepared to bet she isn’t called Sharon McPherson…

Actually, alas, she may be. There are all-to-many Sharon McPhersons in this world willing to go along with whatever alleged racism it is if you compare Nazi Germany with whoever in Israel it’s possible to be racist about.

said: "At the time of the Gaza conflict everyone was receiving emails left, right and centre.

"Yes, they shouldn't have been sent to my work email, but there was nothing in them that was racist.

"I am not a racist person. I only heard that it was racist when I read the paper and heard it on the news.

Well that’s what the paper and the news do, see? They find out the truth about stuff - even stuff about you yourself that even you don’t know to be true, yeah? They supply all the details, all the facts, all the context. Like here.

"There are a lot of people who we work with in my department who receive explicit emails and pictures which I may consider offensive but they have not been suspended.

"I was very, very shocked as I do not consider myself as a racist person.

Me neither, love, but you should’ve seen what they printed about me at university for criticizing the PLO.

"If it was a racist or offensive the computer system would have blocked the email and I would have denied me access to it.

Such faith in technology has she, young Obi Wan. But hasty is she, and foolish.

And the joke is, she really means it. She really thinks that there’s some marvellous programme written in Brixton or San Francisco or somewhere that can be put into your IT and which can find all types of racism – even if you don’t use the Bad Words. And you can tell she’s grateful for it. I really think she actually wants to live in a world where ’racist’ information can be located and blocked and denied access to.

This is Very Old Labour’s Lancashire’s County Hall, dear friends; not the Libertarian Party or something.

"Emails with anything offensive on them never slip through the barrier at Lancashire County Council."

None shall pass! Call Neo and Trinity, for it seems the Matrix has re-emerged triumphant.

County Hall bosses have declined to reveal how the offensive content came to their attention.

All staff emails use a filter system which can detect offensive language.

But I’m betting that ‘zionist’ ‘apes’ and ‘dogs’ didn’t make the final cut, huh? What about ‘Tories?’ when referring to a party that’s been called Conservative for 150 years?

The suspended staff could be sacked if found to have committed gross misconduct.

Some workers are being represented by Unison, the largest union at the council.

I know: I just know without being told, that something stupid is about to be said…

Regional rep Jim Moodie said: "We are aware that three or four of our members have been affected by this.

"We have said we will represent them with regard to any allegations but we are not aware of the specific details yet."

Well, that’s probably because specific facts seem to be in such short supply at County Hall this year.

It must take years to produce an incisive intelligence like Mister Moodie’s.

Generations, even. What a cosy home life he must have up there in the backwoods country of Lancashire: sitting in the old homestead, plucking along in his family’s banjo orchestra alongside all his cousins and both his grandparents…

The police are not involved in the investigation.

Oh, so it’s that uncriminal sort of racism, if any. Hardly racism at all, really. Not the sort that requires massive police presence, local government investigation and children being interviewed and casework being set up. I don’t think that any naming and shaming will be forthcoming, as DJ pointed out in his scoop about this one.

In a letter sent to councillors, chief executive Ged Fitzgerald said the staff had been suspended for “inappropriate email use” and promised a “thorough and formal investigation”.

He warned members that “investigations of this nature may result in disciplinary action or in some cases termination of employment” and added: “I am sure you will understand the need for us to adopt a stringent approach to this issue.”

Well, yes, racism’s about as bad as it can get. There are simply some ideas and opinions that just can’t be tolerated. This is Lancashire after all, where Marx first met Engels, and no harm ever came from their ideas and opinions.

The suspensions were normal HR practice for such serious incidents, he added.

Council leader Hazel Harding said: “We have a code of conduct for anyone who uses our email systems and we take it very seriously.”

Les Parker, a Unite union rep, said: “I have been here for 40-odd years, and I have never seen anything like this number of people suspended in one go.

“Usually it’s one person or maybe two, never ever in the teens like this.

"For this to have happened it’s got to be serious.

Labour county councillor Terry Burns, who represents Burnley North East, said: “We have a very strict policy on emails, and all the staff know about it.”

Lib Dem group leader David Whipp said: “I am concerned that something like this is happening with public employees.”

So my public employee boss can get away with dropping little gems into his casual conversation as ‘Whose idea was this? Some nob of a Tory, I suppose?’ over some unLeftie aspect of Mister Blair’s home justice policy, and can escape unscathed after repeatedly celebrating Mrs. Thatcher’s death with gleeful anticipation, and all but weeps about Hillsborough and will brook no questioning of The Line, but some delicate sensitivities must be treated more fairly, or indeed not named at all…

Lancashire Council of Mosques senior vice chairman Salim Mulla said his group had been in contact with County Hall relating to the suspensions.

Whoa! Hang on a minute! What the heck’s going on here? What on Earth has any of this got to do with religion? Did I miss something in the finely-balanced journalism and facts-feast that is this story?

He said: “I believe it was an exchange of views on the Israeli Palestine situation.

“Lancashire County Council should be sensible in dealing with these issues.

I wonder how ‘sensible’ is defined in this context, and how, precisely, it differs from ‘Muslims can’t be racist so don’t even think about it, buster?’

Of course, it would be unjust to tar all Muslims and all their criticisms of Israeli conduct with the same Islamo-fascist brush. Most of them are just trying to get by in life and paying back the tax burden that we now all owe to the government unto the twentieth generation, and aren’t interested in the politics of the Middle East at all. (And I write this here despite being known and feared throughout the Islamist world as the dreaded and crusading Khali men al rasas.*)

Still and all I can’t help wondering if in some funny sort of way the brush itself might be under attack here.

"In any organisation you get emails that do not relate to the job, and to suspend people for it sends out the wrong message.”

Unlike a message that implies or states that Jews are Nazis, that is.

It’s so difficult to know where to start on this one because it’s such a fouled-up mess that typifies so much that‘s wrong with Britain. That it’s happening in my neck of the woods is doubly vexing.

The pussy-footing around the issue of Islamist anti-Semitism might be a subtle and responsible way of protecting the Muslim community, and trying to prevent inter-racial violence between ‘Asians’ and others. But this in itself begs the question of who would fear violence, and what evidence would a responsible journalist be working with that violence might follow?

Well, quite: lots and lots, actually.

So the first elephant in the room is Islamist violence and intimidation – its constant threat to native white population and the law-abiding majority of Muslims who’ll suffer if the large minority of hot-heads decides to kick off.

And there’s the fact-free journalism typical of the mainstream media; perhaps intimidated and self-censoring due to aforementioned Islamist violence or Political Correctness. In which cases, what and who is this Jimmy Olsen look-alike protecting?

Come on Mister Moseley, isn’t there anything you can write to contextualize any of this?

Then there’s the racism-as-satanism meme that Left-wing councils maintain as an alternative to free speech – free speech that might continue to articulate the utter failure of socialism as a source or preserver of human happiness and decency. Leftism sucks, but fortunately its supporters’ disasters in the economic, moral, and legal spheres can be forgotten if we all join hands to face the common foe of racism stalking our land and poisoning its institutions; stealing our jobs and women, and threatening our precious bodily fluids.

Then there’s the witch-hunt itself: the power and intrusiveness being used and the assumption that monitoring and controlling peoples’ private thoughts and feelings is an okay thing for local government to do to its employees.

Don’t get me wrong, I can understand a responsible public body wanting to keep its internal email use responsible and professional, and agree that it should do so. And in no way do I endorse Islamist anti-Semitism, but still, is there any chance at all that the language of emails regarding strikes and party politics would be investigated at all let alone with anything like this vigour? Describing conservatives as baby-killing fascists is the Marxian Left’s long-term moral goal here. Today this is ‘good power’ by my lights but next time it could be me emailing this very post home to publish it who gets investigated.

What’s all this aboot Iran, Mister Anderson?

But the last elephant; and the really nice elephant that I’m sure I want to celebrate here, is that someone in County Hall’s been forced to acknowledge the possibility of some connection between the defamation of Israel’s self-defence (which is intended to prevent the genocide of the Middle East’s Jews) with racism. The defamers’ ideological soul mates are the Islamist terrorists, as well, so this could be a national security measure, don’t forget. And they’re doing something pretty big about it.

And for that at least, I’m grateful.

Complicated, isn’t it?

Home.

Some dead kid. Another dead kid. Whatever.

Poor old Al Beeb. Just can’t help themselves, can they? It’s like shooting fisks in a barrel.

Here’s a simple, heart-warming tale of a common-or-garden child murder which the BBC bothered to mention – mirabile dictu! - with their usual panache and unique viewpoint.

Israeli child killed in West Bank

A Palestinian attacker wielding an axe has killed an Israeli boy and wounded another in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, police say.

Love that ‘police say.’ Because it’s necessary to point out that maybe, just maybe, the police might be a little biased, maybe? How unlike the editorial life of our own dear Beeb.

The incident took place in the Bat Ayin settlement south of Bethlehem. The attacker is reported to have escaped.

Doctors said the fatality was a 13-year-old, while a seven-year-old boy was being treated for serious wounds.

The military wing of Islamic Jihad and Imad Mughniyeh Group said they carried out the attack, Israel Radio reports.

Wonder if that’s true? I mean, the BBC has a £3,000,000,000 annual budget. Should be easy enough to check somewhere else whether this ‘report’ means either;

A, ‘What the whole world already knows’ or

B, Zionist State radio puts out unconfirmed filthy anti-Palestinian propaganda.

Shucks, if only there was some quick – or better yet instantaneous – way of finding such things out… By casting the runes perhaps( I use the Elder Futhark, though some make great claims for the Old English Rune row, but each to his own, I suppose),

But wait, I’ve found one.

I find: Yahoo. Channel News Asia. Gulf News. Bay Ledger News.

Of course, the probably got most of the story from some news agency source, but still, maybe the Three Billion Dollar Moan might have checked.

Fortunately, each and every one mentions the hawkish new Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Mr Netanyahu's foreign minister and some of them firebrand Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Having a hawkish Prime Minister or firebrand Foreign Minister is an acceptable reason to hack a thirteen-year-old boy to death, as all nuanced broadcasters know.

Ah, here’s Bay Register News;

In a phone call to AFP and a statement released to media in the West Bank, Islamic Jihad and the Imad Mughniyeh Group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was "a natural response to the crimes of the occupation."

In a statement in Gaza, Islamic Jihad hailed the attack, but denied it was responsible.

No wonder the BBC doubts Israeli Radio!

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as a "senseless act of brutality against innocents".

Gotta say compadres, he’s about as bright as John Major; this one. Perhaps he should do some background reading. May I suggest the Koran?

Reports say it appears to be the latest of sporadic attacks

…not so many then, being sporadic and all? Like those thousands of sporadic home-made rockets that sporadically hit sporadic civilian targets and sporadic settlements from Gaza and Lebanon these past few years. Nothing to worry about. Just a spot of sporadic.

by Palestinians in Israeli-occupied territory.

‘Israeli-occupied territory’ huh. Glad you made that clear. Context is all. Makes all that axe-wielding seem worthwhile somehow, doesn’t it?

Pity the BBC has its context meter switched off so often when Israel defends itself against random sporadic stuff, and especially the worldwide lies peddled about the non-murder of Mohammed Al Durah and its equivocal and softball response to the revelations that it was likely another Pallywood production.

It is also the first such incident since the right-leaning government of Prime Minister Netanyahu took office.

Thank God; yes, I’m prepared to say it again, thank God there’s always an easy explanation for these apparently random events. And the BBC has it.

There are fears that the killing could heighten tensions between the Israeli cabinet

I can just see those old politicos getting all sweaty and muttering into their vodka at this. Maybe they’ll throw some insults when some Palestinians come in to their bar, maybe make some rucksack comments, diss their lovely, black-masked women.

No question of a reasoned response here from a sophisticated Western government, right?

and the Palestinians.

Second-mentioned, reactive or passive only. Can't be the aggressors.See?

Mr Netanyahu's foreign minister has declared his government will abandon the Annapolis agreement and go back to the so-called roadmap for peace.

The ‘so-called’ in quote marks which I don’t recall the BBC using when it used the Road Map for Peace as a good reason why the Israelis shouldn’t over-react to sporadic stuff. TRMPFP was the liberal Left’s previous internationally-mediated panacea, until all those intifadas and wars and rockets took the gloss off it. Never mind, there’ll be another one along in a minute. Ah, Annapolis.

According to the roadmap, the Palestinians first have to take a number of steps on security before going on to solve the final issues involved in creating their own state, the BBC's Paul Wood in Jerusalem says.

“the Palestinians first have to take a number of steps on security” in this context means abandoning their publicly stated commitment to wiping Israel off the map and following the Koranic tradition of permanent and universal anti-Semitism in case you were wondering what that meant.

Oh, and abandoning suicide bombing and other random acts of sporadic stuff.

Eyewitness account

Israeli TV reported that the attacker was a local Palestinian.

But BBC sources suspect he might have been something else, such as a crazed Tasmanian Devil or Pacific turtle with a Marks and Spencers bag up its arse. Who knows for sure?

A massive search by police and the army is now under way around Bat Ayin, which is inhabited by about 1,000 religious settlers.

Settler leader Shaul Goldstein said security guards managed to shoot the attacker, but he escaped.

One witness, who said his name was Avinoam, described trying to wrestle the man.

"I was near the settlement offices when I saw a Palestinian with an axe running toward me," he told Israeli television.

"I managed to block his arm, we fell to the ground and struggled but he managed to run away.

"I called for help, another resident fired at him, but missed.

"When I got up, I saw a child wounded in the head. I cried to warn his mother, who ran toward him," he said.

But context at last…

More than 400,000 Jewish settlers live in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, areas which were captured by Israeli in the 1967 war.

Would that be the war of anti-Semitic genocide launched by armies from of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria and also known as the “Third Arab-Israeli War?” Less context here, for some odd reason.

All Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territory are regarded as illegal under international law,

Like the international laws forbidding attacks on civilians, fighting in civilian clothes, stationing weapons and artillery stores in private homes and amongst civilians, refusing UN inspectors into your nuclear plants. That kind of sporadic international law-breaking, O jewels of the desert, O sons of Islam?

…although Israel disputes this.

What with having been promised rather a lot more than it finally received, maybe?

Two things consistently make me ashamed about being British – our treatment of the Jews of the Middle East and the first ‘B’ in BBC.
